How many kids to invite
Four to six guests is a good size for most sleepovers. It is enough for a party atmosphere, and small enough that everyone can join in and actually get some sleep. For younger children or a first sleepover, three or four is often plenty.
If your child wants to invite a bigger group, one option is a party in the afternoon with a smaller group staying the night.
Timing the night
- Start between 5pm and 6pm, so there is time for dinner and an activity before bed.
- Plan a lights-out time and tell the kids at the start of the night, so it is not a surprise.
- Set a pick-up time in the morning, usually between 9am and 10am, and share it with the other parents when you invite them.
- Ask other parents about allergies, bedtime routines and anything that helps their child settle.
Sleepover activities that work
The best activities are simple and match the theme of the night.
- Pamper night: face masks, hair ties, nail painting and a calm playlist.
- Movie night: one film agreed on before the party, with blankets and snacks on trays.
- Game night: board games, card games or a short gaming session with a set finish time.
- Treasure hunt: clues hidden around the house, ending at a small prize for each child.
- Glow party: a dance-off with glow sticks once the lights go down.
- Memory journal: each child writes or draws their favourite part of the night.
Try not to plan too much. Kids at sleepovers are often happiest just talking and laughing in their beds.
Food ideas
Keep dinner easy and hands-on, such as homemade pizzas, tacos or a build-your-own burger bar. Pick one simple treat for later in the evening, rather than snacks all night.
In the morning, pancakes, fruit, yoghurt or croissants are easy to serve on breakfast trays, and the kids love eating in bed.
Lights out and homesickness
Expect a late night, and plan a quiet wind-down before lights out, like a story, a short film or journal time. Keep the room dim and calm.
If a child feels homesick, a quiet chat often helps. Agree with their parents beforehand whether they would like a call, and make sure every child knows that going home early is fine.
The morning after
Serve breakfast, let the kids open any name signs or keepsakes, and take a group photo before pick-up. If you have booked a Yuboo setup, we come back later that morning to pack everything away, so there is nothing for you to clean up.
